The Dirt on Herbs gardens and apothecary is an initiative to educate and promote bio regional herbalism. To encourage the use of regionally sourced, grown, ethically wildcrafted medicinal plants, roots, and mushrooms.
Our goal ; To help re-establish the ancient and inherent healing bond between the human organism and the plant world. A connection that was once the natural order.
Bio regional herbalism means using locally sourced plants. Plants that grow naturally in the region you live in or can be cultivated locally using conventional gardening practices. One benefit of practicing bio regional herbalism is that you can more closely control the quality of plants, root, bark, or mushrooms that you are working with.
Bio regionally sourced plants can almost always be found to successfully satisfy any indicated use. Plant selection for almost any indication is rarely an issue.
To truly understand any given herb I believe you must get to know the plant intimately. The opportunity to do this is in itself a benefit of bio regional herbalism. Experience the plant in all her stages of growth. Go to where she lives, taste, touch smell, experience or imagine the stress they endure, and yes, even talk to them.
I believe plants communicate, act and react on many different levels and pathways with each other and with the world around them. Plants act and react in different ways in your body as well. I believe plants have an innate intellect molecularly and chemically compatible and beneficial to the human organism.
Plants heal the earth and environment. Medicine to a ravaged planet be it destruction inflicted by man or damage incurred through natural phenomena, healing plants are the first to respond to natures call. These plants can be found in areas of needed healing. Yarrow, lobelia, boneset, selfheal, scullcap and many more.
Plants also heal the animals that inhabit our forested mountain coves. And plants can heal and help maintain homeostasis in the human organism. Just as they help maintain the balance and health of the natural environment and all life entrusted to her care.
